The 5 Factor Diet is the perfect diet for those who have problems with sticking to a strict diet.

Harley Pasternak, celebrity trainer and author of 5 Factor Fitness, created the 5 Factor Diet Program. This diet was originally created for celebrities. Kanye West, Jessica Simpson, John Mayer, Alicia Keys, and Eva Mendes have all reportedly had success with the 5 Factor Diet.

The plan is simple. Five meals are eaten each day, for five weeks. Each meal has 5 ingredients and takes no longer than 5 minutes to prepare. Each meal takes no more than 5 minute to cook. All foods on the 5 Factor Diet are low on the glycemic index. Foods that are low on the glycemic index help regulate the production of insulin, lower blood sugar and control hunger. Meals include healthy fats, whole grains, lean meat, and complex carbohydrates, like fruit and vegetables.

Principles of the 5 Factor Diet

  • Eat 5 meals per day.
  • Exercise 25 minutes/day, 5 days a week, for 5 weeks.
  • Each meal uses 5 ingredients and takes 5 minutes to prepare.
  • One day a week is designated a cheat day.
  • Each meal should consist of low-fat protein, fiber, low carbohydrates, sugar-free beverages, and healthy fats, like olive oil.

5 Factor Diet Foods

For breakfast, dieters can eat sugar free cereal, fat free yogurt, berries, hot oatmeal, and egg white omelets. Options for lunch include soups, salads, and wraps. Dinners consist of lean protein, rice and vegetables. Two snacks are allowed per day. Snacks consist of foods like fat free cottage cheese, cheese and crackers and apples. For those looking for a little more variety, there are a multitude of 5 Factor Diet recipes available online. Five cheat days are allowed on the 5 Factor Diet, one per week. On these days, the dieter is allowed to eat whatever he wants.

Exercise is critical to the success of the 5 Factor Diet program. Those familiar with the 5 Factor Fitness Program will recognize the exercises that accompany the diet. The exercise plan is designed to build lean muscle and burn fat. Five days a week, five exercises are performed for 5 minutes each. All exercises can be done at home and include both cardio and strength training. Each day consists of five minutes of cardio and two strength training exercises, one for the upper body and one for the lower body, performed for five minutes each. Strength training is followed by core exercises, like sit-ups and crunches and another five minutes of cardio. Up to 30 minutes of cardio can be done a day.

The 5 Factor Diet is mostly common sense. Eating healthy meals combined with exercise is always good advice. Although the 5 Factor Diet program is safe and effective and healthy enough to be used for a lifetime, you don't have to buy the book to follow it. Those dieters who have trouble sticking to a diet without cheating, may find that the 5 Factor Diet is the right diet for them. While it may seem gimmicky, if the diet and exercise plan are followed exactly, it will provide results.
